Come and join us

Baslow St Anne's is a small, close-knit school where every child is known by name. The best way to find out if we're right for your family is to come and see us.

Plan a visit

Before anything else, we'd encourage you to book a visit. Tours are led by the Headteacher and give you a real sense of the school — the classrooms, the children, the feel of the place.

Bring your child if you'd like to. There's no obligation, no form to fill in — just a chance to have a look around and ask whatever's on your mind.

Offers go out on National Offer Day (16 April). We'll then be in touch to arrange your child's induction visit — a chance to settle in before their first day.

What to expect when you join

A warm welcome

New children don't get lost here. Our classes are small, our staff know every child, and older pupils take pride in helping new ones settle in.

An induction visit

Before their first day, Reception children come in to meet their teacher, see the classroom, and make a few friends. Starting school should feel exciting, not daunting.

Open doors

We keep families informed and involved. If you ever have questions or concerns, the school office and teaching staff are always happy to talk.

Questions families often ask

Do we need to be Christian to join?

Not at all. We welcome children and families of all faiths and none. Our admissions do not include any religious criteria — we're a Voluntary Controlled school, which means places are allocated by Derbyshire County Council on a non-religious basis.

We're moving into the area — can our child join mid-year?

Yes, subject to availability. Apply for an in-year transfer through Derbyshire County Council and drop us a line — we're always happy to discuss your situation directly and help make the move as smooth as possible.

When does my child start Reception?

Children who turn 4 by 31 August are eligible to start Reception in September. All children are entitled to a full-time place from that September, though you can choose a part-time arrangement in the first term if that suits your family better.

What if the school is full?

If more families apply than there are places, Derbyshire County Council allocates by the priority order in our admissions policy (siblings, catchment area, and so on). Children not offered a place are added to a waiting list. You also have the right to appeal — we'll always explain the process clearly if it comes to that.
